Built in 1985 in Peoria, Arizona, Oakwood Elementary is an A+ school. Our principal, Paul Bower, recently was named the National Distinguished Principal for the state of Arizona. With 806 students, we are all very proud of our principal. We are a K-8 school. Our Assistant Principal is Mrs. Parsons. She will kiss a pig if we bring in 12,000 cans of food for our annual November canned food drive! Every morning Mr. Bower and Mrs. Parsons give announcements which appear live in all our classrooms on our televisions. Everyday they say "This is Oakwood!"
Our Canned Food Drive

Oakwood Elementary is doing a canned food drive. The place we are donating to is called St. Mary's Food Bank. Our goal is to collect 12,000 cans. If we achieve our goal, Mr. Bower and Mrs. Parsons will both kiss a pig! So far, we have 9,991 cans. We only have a few days left! Each week, the class with the most cans will win a party. At the end, the class with the most cans overall will win a pizza party! The class that is winning so far already has 1,200 cans.
These are some of the cans that our school has brought in...shaped in a half pyramid. And as you can see we also brought in very many bags of rice sitting against the stage. By: Sophia and Cameron
Fuel Up to Play 60 is a program that our school is part of. This program encourages kids to eat healthy and play at least 60 minutes per day. Here is a link to find more about this awesome program. If you participate you could help your school earn money and a makeover for your gym and cafeteria.
For the month of December, we are running a sock drive at school. Students will bring in new socks . These socks will be given to children who don't have socks to keep their feet warm for the holiday season.
